Blues for Breakfast PDF Print E-mail

Two years ago I started a new tradition at the SPAH convention. On Thursday and Friday mornings I host a session called "Blues for Breakfast."This is the only event during the convention that includes NO Harmonica playing! It is a time for folks to get together with their morning coffee/tea/juice and discuss their "harmonica experience" with each other.

It starts off with each attendee sharing a little about themselves; name. home town, what brings them to the convention, where they are in their harmonica journey etc. As each "story" unfolds the discussion broadens and the interaction/conversation begins. We all have much in common and at the same time many differences as well.

We have all come to our "harmonica place" from many directions and experiences and for many different reasons. I have been so pleased with how things have gone these first few years. Some very powerful and emotional sharing has taken place.

I started this group for a reason. I think that sometimes we can get so wrapped up in all of the musicality and technique and learning stuff that we forget about the "other side" of how and why the harmonica means so much to us. What is has done/ does in our lives even when it is not in our mouths.

Basically this is just a "place" to pause, reflect and share with others before the day of heavy
lifting/learning/playing and listening begins!

This year I would like to make Blues for Breakfast the official convention meeting place for the "board people". Harp-L and Slidemeister "Live"! Keyboard and monitor free! Please join us and contribute to the discussion.
